True. Many pubs serve food and are family-friendly. However, anyone under 18 will not be served alcohol. Alcohol may be purchased in the UK when you are 18 years of age and you will have to show proof that you are of age. It is never acceptable to drink alcohol or be drunk when driving or working.

5. True or False? You can smoke anywhere in Britain.

False. Smoking is usually prohibited in public places, and only allowed in designated areas.

6. True or False? It always rains in the UK.

False. (Maybe a little true!) The weather in the UK is very unpredictable. It can be cold and wet at any time of year. It can rain frequently, but snow is rare in most of the country. Temperatures in the summer rarely get higher than 30 degrees Celsius. It is colder in the northern part of the country and in Scotland where temperatures will get below freezing in winter. You will want to make sure you bring a warm, waterproof coat and warm clothing as many older buildings are not well-heated.
